The three civilian judges, Ahmad al-Omari, Mikhled al-Raqqad, and Bilal al-Bakhit, petitioned the Judicial Council and the Minister of Justice to relieve them of their deputation at the State Security Court, which functions as Jordan's military tribunal, with jurisdiction over cases of national security, national economic crimes, terrorism, and grand drug-related crimes. The civilian judges' request to end their deputation came reportedly related to the nature of the State Security Court's function, which has come under popular fury in recent years for overseeing cases related to the detention and trial of pro-reform activists. The Civilian Judiciary Commission at the State Security Court, located in Marka, southeast of Amman, is headed by Civilian Judge Ahmad Qatarneh.
