Ammon News - Lafayette- A Lafayette man will be deported back to Jordan after pleaded guilty today to racketeering in connection with synthetic marijuana distribution.
Prosecutors say Emad Yousef Abdallah earned nearly $350,000 by selling the fake weed. In addition to deportation, Abdallah agreed to forfeit the cash, a Mercedes Benz, and other items confiscated during the investigation.
According to court documents, Abdallah must leave the country by August 9. If he does not leave or returns to the United States, Abdallah would serve a ten-year prison sentence.
No word yet on if Abdallah's case is connected to the raids on a Lafayette home and business earlier today.
Last week, Abdallah pleaded guilty to marriage fraud after he married twice--once in 2009 and again in 2011--in an attempt to change his immigration status. His sentencing in that case was scheduled for Friday. (KATC.com)
