Ammon News - AMMAN (Jordan Times) — The King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) on Sunday announced the launch of a social media campaign designed to encourage as many people as possible to join the fight against cancer.

“One Million Soldiers Against Cancer” was launched during a tweet-up, hosted at the King Hussein Cancer Centre (KHCC), according to a KHCF statement e-mailed to The Jordan Times.

The campaign seeks to increase the current 250,000 fans and followers of the official KHCF and KHCC pages on Facebook and Twitter, to a million.

“In doing so, people are one step closer to becoming a volunteer, a fundraiser, a donor and a supporter” of the KHCF and KHCC’s life-saving work, the statement said, adding that “no organisation or person can defeat cancer alone; the fight against cancer requires the support of the entire community”.

During the tweet-up, HH Princess Dina Mired, director general of the KHCF, thanked the attendees for their support and for helping raise awareness about cancer.

“The One Million Soldiers Against Cancer campaign is a symbolic campaign that does not aim to raise funds, but rather awareness about the importance of fighting cancer together. I urge every person who is active on social media to join our pages on Facebook and Twitter,” she said.

“We consider every fan and every follower a soldier against cancer. Through them, we can fulfil our mission of raising awareness and educating more people about cancer.”

Dr Imad Treish COO of the KHCC and Zaid Bitar, deputy director general of KHCF, also attended the tweet-up, along with Jordanians who are active on social media, the statement said.

Khaled Al Ahmed, one of KHCF and KHCC’s followers on Facebook and Twitter said the foundation and centre need all the support they can get, “as everyone has been touched by cancer whether through fighting it themselves or seeing a loved one being diagnosed with the disease”.

“Joining the KHCF and KHCC pages on social media takes minimum effort, but it can have a major impact and make a big difference in the lives of cancer patients and others,” he noted.

Nada, a KHCF and KHCC follower on Facebook said she was proud to be considered “a soldier in the battle against cancer even if I’m just sharing some important health information, or raising awareness about the foundation and centre’s activities”.

It proves that every action makes a difference, no matter how small.”
