Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Dozens of protesters demonstrated in downtown Amman on Friday calling for the release of pro-reform detainees and blasted the government's recent measures to restrict freedom of the press and freedom of expression.

The demonstration was held following Friday midday prayer at Al Husseini Mosque in downtown Amman, with protesters blasting the government's recent measure to restrict media freedoms by blocking nearly 300 new websites for failing to get registered and licensed by the Press and Publications Department.

Protesters called for amending the controversial Print and Publications law, and called on the state to bolster efforts to fight corruption and accomplish tangible political and economic reforms.

Similar peaceful protests were also held in the governorates of Tafileh, Karak, Madaba, and Irbid.

A number of Egyptian expatriates took part in Friday's Amman protest, denouncing the Egyptian "military rule" and expressing solidarity with ousted Egyptian President Mohammad Mursi.

One of the Egyptian nationals suffered from a heat stroke during the protest and was rushed to Al Bashir state-run hospital.
