02-07-2013 10:13 PM

Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra) – An agreement was signed here on Tuesday between the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) and the Norwegian Embassy, that will enable the RSS to implement a project to develop Jordan’s National Network on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement.

The Network will include all institutions working in the field of compliance with and enforcement of laws and regulations dealing with conservation of natural resources in order to enhance cooperation and dialogue among these institutions.

The Network will work towards preparing a list of Jordan’s national priorities in the field of environmental compliance and enforcement and will also identify obstacles and evolve a working mechanism for Jordan’s National Environmental Compliance and Enforcement.

The project is part of Jordan’s efforts to activate environmental compliance and enforcement to achieve sustainable development and showcase the Jordanian experience in this area as it prepares to transfer this expertise to other Arab countries through the Arab Network for Environmental Compliance and Enforcement (ANECE). The ANECE was launched at the first regional meeting held at the Dead Sea in 2009.

The agreement was signed by Norwegian Ambassador, Petter Olberg, and Executive Director for Knowledge at the RSS, Muhammad Saidam.

The RSS is the largest institution for applied research, consultation and for providing technical support service in Jordan and is a regional leader in the fields of science and technology.
