Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra) - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh briefed the Lower House on efforts made by the government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, to follow up on the issue of Jordanian detainees in Israeli jails.
During a session held by the House on Sunday to discuss the issue of Jordanian detainees in Israeli prisons, Judeh noted that the ministry is keen to keep the House up to date on efforts made by the government to follow up on Jordanian detainees outside the country, which is an approach that embodies cooperation between the legislative and executive authorities in serving the country and interests of its citizens.
He pointed out that the ministry is in touch with Jordanian detainees in Israeli jails and their families to protect the rights of Jordanian citizens abroad and the list of Jordanian detainees and prisoners in Israel in coordination with the concerned parties in Jordan, and check data that is followed up by our embassy with the concerned Israeli authorities and the Israeli Prison Service.
Judeh said this is a constant effort he follows up personally on, noting that efforts have led recently to arranging a visit by the embassy for all prisoners and detainees in Israeli jails.
He added that he has met with families and representatives of those detainees and prisoners both before and after the embassy's visit, pointing out that the last meeting was on June 16.
