26-06-2013 05:26 PM

Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra)--Minister of Interior and Minister of Municipal Affairs Hussein Majali met on Wednesday with Assistant US Secretary of State for Population, Refugees, and Migration Anne Richard to discuss the Syrian crisis and its political, economic, and humanitarian repercussions, as well as its impact on the security of the region.

The two officials also reviewed the continued influx of Syrian refugees into the Kingdom and its impact on the country’s economy and security, mainly in areas hosting these refugees.

Majali said Jordan was in need of the international community's support to enable it to continue to handle the refugees and provide basic health, education, and security services to them, noting that the refugees had placed tremendous pressure on the Kingdom's education, health, and labor sectors and on the country's infrastructure.

The US official praised Jordan's humanitarian role in mitigating the suffering of the refugees, despite the economic, social, and humanitarian challenges facing the Kingdom.

She also expressed her country's support for Jordan's reform and development march.
