Ammon News - AMMAN (Jordan Times) — Hundreds of displaced Syrians remained stranded near the Jordanian-Syrian border on Monday, unable to cross into Jordan due to the rising violence, according to local residents and relief officials.

Some 720 Syrians managed to cross into Jordan early Monday, the Jordan Armed Forces said, while some 240 Syrians were repatriated upon their request.

Violence intensified along the Jordanian-Syrian border for the third straight day, cutting off most access routes into Jordan.

Although opposition forces reportedly managed to reopen one main access route between the southwest Syrian rebel stronghold of Tal Shihab and Jordan late Sunday, mobility remains restricted in Syria, forcing many refugees to cross via lesser-travelled routes through the eastern Syria desert, according to relief officials and Syrian rebels.
