Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra) French President Francois Hollande, on Sunday said his country is committed to supporting Jordan which has received a massive inflow of Syrian refugees on its territory.
In press remarks at the Queen Alia International Airport at the end of a several-hour visit during which he held talk with His Majesty King Abdullah II, Hollande said the talks were constructive and reflected the two countries’ common stances on various issues.
He voiced his country's appreciation of Jordan’s efforts and bearing heavy burdens due to receiving huge numbers of Syrian refugees, referring to 100 million euros France has decided to provide Jordan with.
He added that efforts will be pooled now to support Syrians at home to reduce their flow to neighboring countries, especially in the light of expectations that violence will further mount.
On arming the Syrian opposition, Hollande said that would require "the Syrian opposition to be able to organize itself in order to reach a political transition, and to be separated from extremist groups that seek through spreading chaos to bog down a political solution." On Mideast peace, the French president stressed the need to return to the negotiating table, pointing out that " Jordan has a key a role in this direction."
