Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan allowed a shipment of heavy military vehicles to be transported through its territories to rebel forces in Syria amid Jordanian military reinforcement on its northern borders with Syria, a newspaper report said.

The Saudi-based Al Sharq reported that Jordan's military boosted its forces near its borders with Syria.

A senior source reportedly told Al Sharq that the shipment delivered to Syrian opposition rebels included heavy military vehicles from European and other foreign countries.

The shipment allegedly includes nearly 100 tanks, weapons, and ammunition that were delivered to Syrian rebels through a border point between Jordan, Syria, and Iraq, according to the unnamed source, who added that Free Syrian Army fighters, who had defected from the Syrian army's artillery units, received training on how to use the tanks.

The reports come amid vague political discourse by the Jordanian government, which insists on Jordan's neutral stance towards the crisis in neighboring Syria while advocating for a political solution there. Meanwhile, Jordanian pro-Syrian regime advocates say that Jordan is being dragged into the Syrian opposition camp.

The Al Sharq report comes a day after Jordan's Prime Minister, Abdullah Ensour dismissed foreign media reports that US military and CIA operatives have been training Syrian opposition forces inside Jordan.

The Jordan Armed Forces and the government spokesperson, Mohammad Momani, also denied the reports published by various international media outlets.
