Dubai to open Quran theme park in 2014

Ammon News - Dubai is to get a Dhs27 million, 60-hectare theme park dedicated to the Quran.

Dubai Municipality announced the news on Thursday and said the park would be complete by September 2014.

It will be in Al Khawaneej and the municipality said: “It has been specially designed in the Islamic perspective to introduce the miracles of Quran through a variety of surprises for the visitors. “

Mohammed Noor Mashroom, Director of General Projects Department, released the details of the proposed project on the occasion of celebrating the 1000th meeting of the technical committee of Dubai Municipality.

The park will include all available plants mentioned in the Holy Book, along with facilities such as main entrance, administration building, Islamic garden, children's play areas, Umrah corner, outside theatre, areas for miracles of the Qur'an, fountains, bathrooms, desert garden and palm oasis. It will also have a lake, running track, cycling track and sandy walking track.

The municipality said 54 plants are mentioned, including fig, pomegranate, olive, corn, garlic, wheat and bananas.

The glass building on the site will accommodate of 15 types of plants and other species will be planted in different gardens specified for each type.

It is hoped the plants will encourage visitors to think about the reason behind mentioning their names in the Quran, said Mashroom.

“The area allocated for the miracles of Quran will include an air-conditioned tunnel to miracles and stories of the Holy book,” he added.

”The total cost of the project is estimated at around Dhs27 million as per the current tenders, which may be slightly varied as per the final design approved by the technical committee.”

The initial site preparation works, tracks and service buildings are completed.

The second stage will start next month and to end in July 2014. The third stage will start in August 2014 to end in September 2014, Mashroom said.
