King meets political, intellectual, and academic figures in London

Ammon News - LONDON (Petra) His Majesty King Abdullah II on Thursday met with a number of political, intellectual, and academic figures in London and discussed regional developments.

The King stressed that Jordan exerts intensive efforts to address regional challenges to protect Jordan's interest and establish peace and stability in the region.

On Syria, the King warned against the repercussions of the Syrian crisis on the entire region, including Syria's neighboring countries.

His Majesty underlined the need to intensify efforts to realize a comprehensive political transition solution to end the Syrian crisis, stop its repercussions, and safeguards the unity of Syria and its people, noting Jordan's big efforts to aid the Syrian refugees, whose number has exceeded 500,000.

On the peace process, the King stressed that the Palestinian issue remains the core regional issue, despite the accelerating developments in the Middle East, highlighting the importance of supporting efforts aiming at finding a just and lasting solution that restores the legitimate rights of the Palestinians and fulfill their aspirations for an independent state on their national soil in accordance with the two-state solution.

King Abdullah also pointed out to the US efforts, led by Secretary of State John Kerry, to break the deadlocked peace process and help the Palestinians and Israelis resume negotiations that address all final status issues.

His Majesty also called on Israel to stop its unilateral measures, warning that such actions undermine efforts to achieve peace.

The King also outlined Jordan's efforts to realize reforms, including the wide-ranging constitutional amendments, the establishment of the Constitutional Court and Independent Elections Commission, new key laws governing political life, and the recent parliamentary elections, noting the recent discussion papers he presented on various issues.

The British figures praised the King's efforts to establish peace and stability in the region, noting Jordan's wise policy in addressing regional challenges.

The meeting was attended by the King's accompanying delegation.
