Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra) - Minister of Labor Nidal Katamine said the ministry will enforce the law and only permit recruitment of foreign laborers according to conditions set by the law, as this will give priority to Jordanians seeking employment in the private sector.
During a meeting with the ministry's employment staff on Sunday, Katamine added that the ministry is implementing a number of programs to solve the unemployment problem, including enforcement of the labor law, cooperation and coordination with other official parties to open the labor market in the private sector for Jordanian labor, enactment of terms to allow the handicapped to work in the private sector within the 4% set by the law, as well as orphans, abide by occupational health and safety and give Jordanians priority of employment in all professions.
He urged employers to hire the handicapped and orphans, noting that the ministry will not allow employers to hire foreign labor before enacting the law that gives these segments priority in employment, with a good salary and proper working conditions.
The minister further directed employment staff at the ministry to work in the nation’s poorest areas through job fairs and cooperate with other concerned institutions and ministries to discuss the special needs of these areas.
Katamine noted that the idea of the mobile employment station will be considered in all areas to pinpoint its needs and cooperate with members of the lower house in their constituencies and local government to solve employment issues in these areas. He stressed the need to apply the centralized model in visits to survey areas with high rates of unemployment, solve this problem immediately, focus on female employment and open projects in these areas, and improve the individual standard of living according to the "one-stop-shop" system.
