Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan's military tribunal on Saturday ordered the detention of a reform activist for 15 days in prison pending investigation into anti-regime charges brought against him.
The State Security Court (SSC) ordered the detention of Hisham al-Haisa for 15 days in Jwaideh prison after charging him with attempts to form anti-regime terrorist groups and inciting anti-regime sentiment, according to the Jordanian Youth Activists Coalition (Hirak).
Al-Haisa was arrested on Thursday while crossing the Aqaba customs check point and taken to a police precinct in the southern port city before he was transferred to a jail in the capital Amman.
SSC had issued a list of charges against Al-Haisa, who took part in popular protests last fall against the government's decision to lift fuel subsidies, which led to a major hike in prices of gasoline and oil derivatives.
