Refugee issue: a major problem for Jordan

Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra)--Chairman of The Nippon Foundation Yohei Sasakawa said the issue of refugees was one of the major challenges currently being faced by Jordan, and he urged civil society institutions to shoulder their responsibility in resolving the situation rather than depending on the government to find a solution to the problem.

In a statement to Jordan News Agency, Petra, on the sidelines of his participation in the West Asia North Africa Forum, which concluded in Amman yesterday, Sasakawa stated that civil society institutions play a major role in resolving conflicts and helping refugees, noting that the forum had discussed issues related to the displaced people and the means of assisting them.

The Nippon Foundation is a private, non-profit grant-making organization. It was established in 1962. The foundation’s mission is to redirect Japanese motorboat racing revenue toward philanthropic activities, and it uses these funds to pursue global maritime development and to provide assistance for humanitarian work, both at home and abroad. In its humanitarian efforts, it focuses on issues such as social welfare, public health, and education.
