Embassy celebrates Jordan’s Independence Day, King's Accession to the Throne

Ammon News - Washington --The Embassy of Jordan in Washington hosted a reception yesterday under the auspices of Her Royal Highness Princess Aisha Bint al-Hussein/Defense Attache and Her Excellency Dr. Alia Bouran, Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in Washington.

This year’s reception marked a celebration of three historic occasions: the Sixty seventh Anniversary of the Independence Day of Jordan, His Majesty King Abdullah II accession to the Throne, and The Kingdom’s Armed Forces Day.

The reception was attended by nearly 500 guests, including US officials from government and Congress, members from the diplomatic community in Washington D.C., business leaders, journalists, Think Tank scholars and representatives, civil society groups, and the Jordanian community from all over the United States.

In her welcoming remarks, Ambassador Bouran reflected on the past 67 years since Jordan gained its independence and described the achievements as "nothing short of outstanding and a source of pride." Bouran highlighted the Hashemite leadership in building and transforming Jordan into a major cosmopolitan center in the Middle East. "Under the reign of His Majesty King Abdullah II, Jordan opened to a diversity of global markets, excelled our knowledge economy, nurtured our entrepreneurs, and had our first elected government through an impressive process of political reform." She said "Throughout our existence, tolerance, dignity, openness and respect of the others’ beliefs and values have been key principles upon which Jordan was founded and continues to build upon for the future." Bouran said.

Ambassador Bouran hailed the strength of the relationship between Jordan and the United States. "The strength of the relationship has never been stronger with the two countries being partners and allies in promoting common global goals and facing regional challenges." She added. Bouran pointed to President Obama’s recent visit to Jordan and thanked him for his commitment to the security and stability and well being of Jordan.

Ambassador Bouran also paid tribute to the Jordanian Armed Forces and spoke of their adherence to high values and of their professionalism and strong dedication to peace keeping missions under the United Nations. "They represent one of the highest worldwide presences in peace keeping efforts." Bouran stated (Petra).
