Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra) - Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour met with President of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli, who is currently visiting Jordan to take part in a conference entitled, "Arab Christian Media In the Service of Justice, Peace and Human Rights" which opens in Amman today.
Ensour noted that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, is a model of coexistence between Muslims and Christians and for promoting dialogue, love and respect of others, adding that Jordan views Christianity as a basic component of the Levant.
He highlighted efforts being exerted by His Majesty to bring about peace and stability in the region and safeguard Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem to enhance the Islamic and Christian presence in the city and prevent the emptying of its Arab inhabitants.
Ensour also reviewed regional challenges facing the Middle East, pointing to repercussions of the Syrian crisis on Jordan, which is hosting hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees.
Archbishop Celli praised the role of His Majesty the King in achieving security and stability in the region.
Further, he highlighted the importance of issues that will be discussed during the conference, saying the media has an important role in serving peace, and institutionalizing democracy and human rights in Jordan.
