Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra)--Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh met with European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule to discuss bilateral ties and the latest developments in the Middle East.

Judeh said Jordan appreciated the support and assistance it receives from the EU to enable it to address the humanitarian repercussions on the Kingdom caused by the Syrian crisis.

Fule said new aid totaling 50 million euros will be allocated to Jordan, half of which will support Jordan's treasury to ease the burden the kingdom is shouldering as a result of hosting hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees.

The meeting also focused on the situation in Syria, including efforts to arrive at a political solution that ends the violence and preserves Syria's unity, as well as Jordan's reform process, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, to bring about reforms in the political, economic and social fields.

The two officials also reviewed efforts to revive peace talks between the Palestinians and Israelis, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Further, they highlighted the strong ties between Jordan and the EU, especially since Jordan enjoys "advanced status" with the European Union.
