Ammon News - King receives executive director of IPI, discusses role of press in reform process

Amman, May 23 (Petra)-His Majesty King Abdullah II on Thursday met with International Press Institute (IPI) Executive Director Alison Bethel McKenzie at the conclusion of IPI's annual conference in Amman.

The King expressed his appreciation for the IPI, which enjoys a well-known international reputation, choosing to hold its annual conference in Jordan, stressing that responsible and professional media is a partner in forming the future, as well as being a regulatory tool to achieve comprehensive development and enhance the reform process.

Also, His Majesty pointed to opportunities to cooperate between the IPI and Jordan media institutions, with the aim of improving and upgrading media performance on a professional and objective basis and in a way that ensures a balance between freedom and the responsibility of the media.

Further, Mackenzie briefed the King on the major themes and issues deliberated during the conference, as well as the most important recommendations to deliver the message of journalism and media freedom, and praising the physical facilities provided by Jordan to make the conference a success.

The International Press Institute is a global network of editors, media executives and leading journalists in more than 120 countries around the world, established in 1950 and dedicated to the furtherance and safeguarding of press freedoms, the protection of freedom of opinion and expression, the promotion of the free flow of news and information, and the improvement of the practices of journalism.
