U.S. announces extra $100m in humanitarian aid for Syrians

Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra) The U.S. has announced an additional $100 million in humanitarian aid for Syrian citizens who were affected by the conflict in their country.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who announced the aid from Istanbul, where he started an official visit, said nearly $43 million will go for Jordan; $32 million for Lebanon; $9.5 million for Turkey and nearly $16 million to help those inside Syria, according to a Department of State statement.

"This would bring the total U.S. contribution for humanitarian assistance to $510 million for those suffering from the violence inside Syria," the statement added.

The money allocated for Jordan will be used to build shelters, provide food and health and environmental services for the Syrian refugees, whose number in the Kingdom has exceeded 500,000.
