Ammon News - The German Embassy in Amman cooperates with the Jordan Media Institute

The German Embassy in Amman announces its support for the Jordan Media Institutes's project "Reporting on Good Governance and Human Rights".

The project will provide basic training for 15 journalists in a workshop held at JMI's premises on Human Rights reporting with a particular focus on fighting corruption and ensuring good governance. The aim of the training is to equip 15 journalists with tools, skills and methodologies to investigate and properly report on corruption issues. The training will include supervised field work of participants to produce at least 4 stories on the subject matter. Germany is funding the project with an amount of up to 12.000 JOD.

The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, H.E. Ralph Tarraf, declared on the occasion of the announcement of the project:

"Fighting corruption and properly addressing alleged corruption cases is a challenge for all societies, and for all governmental and non-governmental institutions and organizations, public and private, worldwide. Journalists have an important role to play in reporting on corruption issues, creating public awareness for all aspects of the matter and feeding into an informed and responsible public debate on the issue.

Although the current project is modest in scale, it gives me particular pleasure to kick off a cooperation between Germany and the Jordan Media Institue in the field of the training of journalists. I hope that this project will be the start of a sustained and fruitful cooperation between Germany and the Jordan Media Institue.

Under the skillfull leadership and guidance of Her Royal Highness Princess Rym Ali, the Jordan Media Institute has established a strong reputation and an impressive credibility in fulfilling its stated goal to become a Center of Excellence in journalism education in Jordan and the region. The JMI has managed to keep the focus on raising the standards and the standing of journalism and the media, making a difference for the overall development of the media’s role in society and politics, not only in Jordan. I very much hope that we will undertake in the near future further steps to enhance our cooperation. We are currently exploring further opportunities to intensify and formalise a cooperation between between JMI and the Deutsche Welle."
