PSD Chief leaves post, appointed Interior Minister

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Major General Hussein Hazza Majali, Chief of the Public Security Department (PSD) will be leaving his post after being appointed as Minister of Interior in the new government formation.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Saturday picked Majali to lead the Interior Ministry, and merged his duties to include the Ministries of Rural and Municipal Affairs as well in the slender new 18-minister cabinet.

Born in Karak in 1960, Major General Majali was appointed as PSD commander in September 2010, following a 5-year post as Jordan's Ambassador to Bahrain. He previously held the position of Commandant of the Royal Guards during the reign of the Late King Hussein. Majali is the youngest son of the Late Prime Minister Hazza' Majali, who served two terms in the 1950's until his assassination in his office on August 29, 1960.

Majali holds a bachelor degree in Political Sciences from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina (1981), and a bachelor and a master of science in Military Sciences, from Mutah University, Jordan. He speaks Arabic, English and French.
