Ammon News - CAIRO (Petra) Arab foreign ministers holding an emergency meeting in Cairo on Sunday discussed urgent support for hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq.

Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh joined his colleagues from the Arab League at the meeting, requested by Lebanon, to look into the repercussions of the Syrian conflict on neighbouring countries as a growing number of refugees are still pouring into regional states.

Also on the agenda of the meeting, attended by Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, is the financial crisis the Palestinian Authority is facing after Israel withheld hundreds of millions of dollars in tax money collected on its behalf following Palestine's upgrade at the United Nations to an observer, non-member state.

The ministers will tackle a report by Arab League Secretary General Nabil Elaraby on his efforts with member Arab countries to provide a monthly financial safety net of $100 million to the Palestinians.

They will also try to forge a common position after postponement of an international conference on a Middle East free of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction which was due to be held in Helsinki last December.
