Unemployment rate rises to 12.5 percent in 4th quarter of 2012

Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra)--The unemployment rate rose to 12.5 per cent during the fourth quarter of 2012 compared with 12.1 per cent during the same period of 2011, according to the Department of Statistics (DoS).

The report of DoS, released Monday showed that Jobless rate among male workers during the September-December period of 2012 was 10.8 per cent while among female workers, was 19.9 per cent.

The findings also indicated that the unemployment rate was high among holders of bachelor`s and postgraduate degrees, standing at 16 per cent.

According to the survey, the illiterate constituted around 0.8 per cent of the unemployed workforce and those who did not complete high school represented 45.9 per cent.
