Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The "Sons of Plowers" national list running for candidacy in the upcoming parliamentary elections said that it refused to meet with representatives of the U.S. Embassy in Amman.
The "Abna' al-Haratheen" bloc, consisting mainly of trans-Jordanian candidates, issued a statement on Saturday noting that the U.S. Embassy invited them for a meeting at the Embassy to discuss the elections.
The bloc's spokesperson, Alaa Fazaa claimed that he recieved a phone call from an embassy employee asking to hold a meeting between representatives of the bloc and members of the American Embassy staff to discuss the electoral process.
Fazaa said that he turned down the embassy invitation on behalf of the bloc.
In a press statement, Abnaa al-Haratheen national list said that it understands Western Embassies' interest in the Jordanian elections as "normal," but stressed that the embassy's request to meet personally with election candidates is an interference in the electoral process and is a violation of Jordanian sovereignty.
