International observers to arrive next week for elections

Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra) A number of international observers will be arriving in Amman next week to monitor the upcoming elections, the Independent Elections Commission (IEC) announced Thursday.

Spokesman of the commission Hussein Bani Hani said the observers are from the European Union, the U.S. and the Arab League. Another group of observers, representing NGOs are also expected next week, Bani Hani added.

The spokesman noted that 28 local, Arab and international organizations will be monitoring the January 23rd elections, in addition to 12 Arab and foreign embassies.

Local organizations will be deploying about 7,500 observers across the Kingdom, he said.
