Ammon News - AMMAN (Petra) - His Majesty King Abdullah II on Sunday discussed with Special Envoy of the International Quartet Committee on the Middle East Peace, Tony Blair, developments in the Middle East, especially the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.
King Abdullah stressed the need to intensify all regional and international efforts to bring about an immediate halt to the Israeli aggression and military escalation, which hinders peace efforts and poses a serious threat to the security and stability of the region.
The King warned that the aggression would deepen the suffering of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, which is already going through an extremely humanitarian situation.
His Majesty also stressed the importance of the Quartet's role to restore momentum to the peace process in order to find a just and lasting settlement to the Palestinian issue, based on the two-state solution leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
In a separate meeting, the King discussed with British Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East, Alistair Burt, the latest developments in Syria.
Blair and Burt hailed the King's efforts to bring about peace in the Middle East. They also paid tribute to the Jordanian military field hospital in the Gaza Strip and its vital role in easing the suffering of the Palestinian people.
