20 Arrested in Karak, Tafileh over Riots

AMMONNEWS - Police on Thursday arrested 20 people over charges of inciting and partaking in riots in the southern governorates of Karak and Tafileh, security sources said.
Nine were apprehended in Tafileh, and 11 others in Karak.
Among the arrests, police apprehended two Syrian nationals who allegedly took part in the riots in Tafileh, and are being investigated for their "motives," according to security sources.
Two minors were arrested Karak that are being held at a juvenile detention center.
Meanwhile, Tafileh governor Hashem Saheem said that normal conditions returned to Tafileh on Thursday following two days of riots and protests over the government's decision to lift subsidies on fuel derivatives.
Police and gendarmerie forces used tear gas and rubber bullets Wednesday night to disperse rioters.
Meanwhile, representatives of youth and popular movements in both Tafileh and Karak stressed that they will continue to protest until the government rescinds its decision to raise prices.
