AMMONNEWS - Dozens of activists on Friday staged a protest in front of Al Kaluti Mosque in Amman in protest of what they considered degenerating political and economic conditions in Jordan as a result of dependency on foreign powers.
The protesters, mostly from leftist opposition political parties and movements, blamed the regression of public freedoms and the economic crisis in the country on what they described as "a method of followership."
They slammed the 1994 Wadi Araba peace treaty between Jordan and Israel and burnt Israeli and American flags, and pronounced their objection to the presence of foreign troops in Jordan.
The protest comes also in reaction to media reports that U.S. and British special forces are present in Jordan in preparation for any possible spillover from the crisis in Syria, and to prevent chemical weapons from falling in the hands of terrorists, US Defense officials said.
Protesters also slammed the Camp David peace treaty between Israel and Egypt, and considered the Oslo Accord a 'scandal.'
