Jordan to Open New Syrian Refugee Camp near Zarqa

15-10-2012 12:00 AM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Jordanian government is considering openning a new refugee camp for Syrians fleeing into the country in the area of Mreijib al-Fhoud, 20 kilometers east of Zarqa.

Spokesperson of the Syrian Refugee Affairs Anmar Hmoud said in statements to Jordan News Agency that the size of the camp will encompass nearly 13,000 dunums.

He noted that if refugees in Zaatari camp in Mafraq exceed 45,000, the new camp will open near Zarqa to absorb the increasing influx of Syrian refugees and to ease the pressure off al-Zaatari camp.

Hmoud noted that the camp will be opened once Jordan secures funds from donor countries, adding that the number of Syrian refugees at Zaatari camp exceeded 36,000.
