AMMONNEWS - About 50 0f Islamists on Sunday staged a sit-in in front of the Prime Ministry's office in Amman calling for the suspension of the Jerash festival for Culture and Arts, which takes place in the ancient city of Jerash.
Protestors chanted that the festival should not take place this year while their "brothers" in Syria are being killed, according to their expression.
A protester stated that it is wrong to have a festival and to celebrate with scandalous belly dancing while their “brothers” are being murdered just across the border. “Because we love Islam, we reject Jerash.” Banner says.
Women who supported the cause, stood to the side separated from the men. They held banners that read “Live free” and “Bombings while we celebrate is wrong.”
“I want to be here because it is right…people in Syria are being killed and we are celebrating. I am not against the festival or my country. It is just the wrong time to celebrate.” she said.
This year’s Jerash festival is scheduled to take place from July 4th to July 14th.
