Ammon News - AMMONNEWS – After a three-year hiatus, the ancient city of Jerash comes to life tomorrow when the Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts kicks off with performances by renowned singers and dance and folklore troupes from across the Arab region and the world.
With final preparations in place, the opening ceremony will include speeches by Head of the festival's Higher Committee Fayez Tarawneh and the Mayor of the city of Jerash.
Member of the festival's administrative commission for cultural and financial affairs Mohammad Abu Sumaqa said the festival's activities will be held in five amphitheaters in Jerash.
He said a number of best-known Arab singers, including Melham Barakat, George Wasouf, Nabil Shuail and Najwa Karam, will be taking part in this years' event.
Also performing at the festival are folklore troupes from Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Germany, China, Kazakhstan and Romania.
Other activities include poetry evening recitals by Jordanian poets and plays by local performers in addition to a handicrafts exhibition.
Air time rights have been granted to Jordan Television that will also give Arab Satellite channels the opportunity to carry out live coverage.
The Jerash Festival was founded and launched in 1981 and held annually from July to August in the ancient Roman city of Jerash.
