26-05-2011 12:00 AM

Ammon News - AMMAN - Director General of the Palestinian Affairs Department Wajih Azaizeh urged UNRWA to maintain the level of services provided to refugees in the educational, health and social fields.

At a meeting with Director of UNRWA Operation in Jordan Sandra Mitchell, Azaizeh also called on donor countries to fulfill their obligations towards UNRWA as it represents commitment of the international community towards Palestinian refugees until their issue is solved in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.

Azaizeh also discussed with the UNRWA official conditions and challenges facing the UN agency while carrying out vairous programs.

Mitchell said she would work towards increasing UNRWA's budget in Jordan to serve refugees, stressing the importance of cooperation and support the agency receives from the Palestinian Affairs Department and other official departments that enable UNRWA to provide better services to refugees.

The budget allocated for the agency's operations in Jordan accounts for 22 percent of the total budget of UNRWA although 42 percent of Palestinian refugees registered with UNRWA live in the Kingdom.
