Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - President of Al Wehdat Football Team, Tareq Khouri, stressed that his team will suspend participation in future games following the violence that occurred after Friday's match between Al Wehdat and Al Faisali.
In an interview with a TV on Friday, Khouri called for 'severely punishing' those responsible for the unrest that followed the match.
The President of Al Wihdat, players, and board members described the violence that occurred as 'human massacre' calling for severe punishment for those responsible.
"The team will have a harsh response to this chaos," team officials stressed.
They called on Jordan Football Association (JFA) and its President, Prince Ali bin Al Hussein to investigate the issue, and take consideration to what was perpetrated against Al Wihdat fans, "who have always been supporters of Jordan's national football team."
Around 250 fans were injured on Friday following the game. Unrest during Al Wihdat fans' celebration, according to Gendarmerie Director, and rocks and bottles being thrown at the fans, caused Gendarmerie forces to intervene.
A stampede occurred as fans attempted to exit the King Abdullah Stadium in Quwaismeh. The crowding and the fans' weight caused a metal railing separating the stands from the field to collapse, resulting in numerous injuries.
Eye witnesses reported that Gendarmerie personnel used excessive force against the fans, culminating in riots outside the stadium, which later extended to nearby areas and around the hospitals where many of the fans were admitted.
