Ammon News - AMMONNEWS- A judge in the United States has sentenced the Jordanian citizen Hosam Maher Husein Smadi (20), to 24 years in U.S. prison for attempting to blow up a skyscraper in the Texas city of Dallas.
The court opened on Monday evening ,with presence of Hosam father's, 60-year-old Maher Smadi , who works as a consultant in the Ministry of Agriculture , and his younger sister, Rama, 13 years, the Director of Hosam's school , The Latin school Salma Rabadi, who taught Hosam before he left to the United States, the manager of a hotel in Aqaba Mohammed ALZaghoul, as witnesses.
Hussein Maher Smadi, Hosam's younger brother said that the court did not take the testimony of the Jordanian witnesses into much account, and he received a call from his father informing him that the court sentenced his brother to 24 Years in prison.
Hosam's father and sister were dismayed when they saw Hosam handcuffed as he entered the court room, a matter that also angered his family back in Ajloun governorate, north of Amman, Hussein Smadi said.
Hussein Smadi asked the Jordanian government to interfere and request a fair retrial for his brother especially that no substantial evidence was presented against Hosam, the young Smadi said.
Hosam Maher Husein Smadi, had overstayed a tourist visa, and married an American woman before undercover FBI agents in September 2009 lured Smadi into a fake plot to blow up the 60-story Fountain Place building in Dallas, Texas.
Smadi drove a truck that he believed carried an explosive device into a garage under the building and activated the false bomb, according to court documents. Facing life in prison, Mr. Smadi agreed to plead guilty to attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction in exchange for a reduced sentence.
