Ammon News - For the 2010 Paris Motor Show Audi has revealed not one but two innovative concept cars. The Audi e-tron Spyder, with plug-in hybrid drive is the study of an open two-seater sports car. At 4.06 meters long and 1.81 meters wide it is only 1.11 meters high and is equipped with a 300 hp twin-turbo V6 TDI at the rear axle and two electric motors producing a total of 64 kW at the front axle.
The Audi e-tron Spyder’s low total weight of only around 1,450 kilograms combined with the high-torque TDI and the two electric motors results in respectable performance. The car accelerates to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds, and top speed is electronically governed at 250 km/h. The e-tron Spyder can combine the 650 Nm torque of its diesel engine with the total of 352 Nm of its two electric motors during acceleration in a process known as “boosting.” The Audi e-tron Spyder requires on average just 2.2l diesel/100 km, corresponding to CO2 emissions of 59 g/km. A range of more than 1,000 kilometers is possible with the 50-liter tank. The open sports car can also drive strictly on electric power and thus with zero emissions over distances of up to 50 kilometers, such as in urban areas. The top speed of 60 km/h is just fine for normal driving.
In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the debut of the Audi Ur-quattro, Audi is now presenting a car a futuristic interpretation: the two-seater Audi quattro concept. Its foundation is provided by the powerful Audi RS 5, one of the brand’s sportiest production vehicles ever. The Audi development engineers shortened the wheelbase by 150 millimeters and lowered the roofline by around 40 millimeters. The heavily modified body weighs just 1,300 kilograms and is made primarily of aluminum, with the hood, the rear hatch and other components made of carbon.
A thoroughbred driving machine with 408 hp, inline five-cylinder turbocharged engine accelerates the car from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.9 seconds. Torque is distributed as needed via a six-speed manual transmission and of course the latest generation of quattro permanent all-wheel drive, which is designed to coax the maximum of fun and safety out of every last bit of torque.
Also on were the Audi A7 Sportback, Audi R8 Spyder 4.2 FSI quattro, the Audi A1 1.4 TFSI with 185 hp as well as the high-performance sports car R8 GT. Audi confirms that a small number of the limited-production version of its R8 high-performance sports car will be allocated to the Middle East. The R8 GT is a driving machine with breathtaking lateral acceleration and lightning-fast, nearly instantaneous reactions. The output of its 5.2-liter V10 has been increased to 560 hp; vehicle weight has been reduced by roughly 100 kilograms. The R8 GT accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 320 km/h. Featuring the aluminum Audi Space Frame body and a number of new components made of carbon fiber composite, the R8 GT tips the scales at just 1,525 kilograms for a power-to-weight ratio of only 2.72 kilograms. The 19-inch wheels keep the car planted firmly on the asphalt, and the carbon fiber ceramic brakes easily keep the power under control.
