AMMONNEWS - Hundreds of Jordanians on Tuesday afternoon crowded in front of the Libyan Embassy in Amman to express solidarity with the Libyan people in their uprising against Muammar Gaddafi's regime.

Activists from political parties, civil society organizations and artists in addition to Libyans residing in Jordan took part in the demonstration.

The Libyan protestors called on the Libyan Ambassador present inside the Embassy building to join them in their protest, chanting "Oh Ambassador, come out and participate in change."

A number of parliament members also crowded at the door of the Embassy attempting to submit a letter to the ambassador, yet embassy employees prevented them.

Chairman of the Jordanian Professional Associations Council Abdul Hadi Falahat applauded the popular uprisings in Tunisia, Egypt, and most recently in Libya and other Arab countries.

Falahat also condemned the method Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi has ruled his country with an iron fist, and the latest attacks he has ordered against the Libyan people in his attempt to subdue the uprising.

Deputy Head of the Agricultural Engineers' Association Mahmoud Abu Ghanimeh called on the Libyan Ambassador to join the protestors, addressing him by saying "You have the choice of standing by the free Libyan people, or remaining in the regime of your lunatic leader.. either freedom or lunacy.. this is your choice, don't let history record you as a traitor."

The protestors also performed an absentee prayer on the souls of Libyan martyrs who have fallen in the past few days in different Libyan cities.

There are over 200 Libyan students studying in Jordanian universities, in addition to Libyans who came to Jordan for medical treatment, many of whom joined Tuesday's protest.

MP Reem Badran submitted a memo to the Libyan Embassy signed by a number of female MPs expressing condemnation of the regime's targeting of its people, and the use of excessive force and warplanes to bomb the protestors on the street "who are expressing their will for freedom."

The memo said that the violence used against the Libyan people is a grave violation of moral Islamic principles, Human rights and international law.

The memo called on Arab and Islamic nations to stand in solidarity and help rescue the Libyan people. (Watch Video below)
