AMMONNEWS (Exclusive) - King Abdullah II, on the final day of Ramadan and just ahead of Eid al-Fitr, surprises Jordan and the world by issuing a royal pardon of 18 detainees charged with Lèse majesté and insulting the Royal Dignity in statements, poems, or writings.
This is not inimitable for the leader of this country, who has presented time and again the model of tolerance and forgiveness, qualities of such noble and righteous figures, offering yet another opportunity for a clean slate to start anew.
We do not think of a Jordanian who values the homeland and the King to repeat such offense, for irresponsible and hash offenses as such will not shake the knights who lead the kingdom's journey wit their ethics and ethos.
His Majesty's pardon of a group of individuals who have offended, in statements, poems, or writings, in the past, and who are being tried in the country's courts, indicates the wise governance of a monarch who does not, under any circumstances, neglect his people, even if some of them offended him.
With this act, the King revealed his distinction among some in our region who made us witness how many paid their lives and blood as price for a comment or a whisper against them.
His father, the Late King Hussein "Abu Abdullah", accompanied us for long years, and here we are looking forward with much optimism to the future in the company of Abdullah, "Abu Hussein," witnessing first hand how pardon became the banner, forgiveness a message, and tolerance the capacity and will of the determined people (Ahl al-Azm) and the bearers of the "Red Kuffiya."
It is a message loaded with firmness and indications, issued in the Nights of Destiny, devotion, and supplication, in hopes that it effectively inspires those who the pardon covers, to repent and return to their maturity, and reward goodness with goodness and loyalty.
Strength, bravery and repaying with loyalty, belonging, and gratitude are sources of invulnerability and an opening of a new chapter that must not be repayed except by its equal or greater. This is what we have always witnessed from all Jordanians who the King has ordered their cases closed and be returned to their families and loved ones ahead of the blessed Eid.
It is in this joyous celebration that we affirm that, despite our differences in opinions or perspectives, we all come along together, on a united land, a strong front, and a loyalty to a white-hearted tolerant leader.
