*The United States Embassy in Amman issued a security alert on Sunday urging American citizens in Jordan to remain vigilant and consider departing the Middle East amid rising regional tensions.
The embassy said the government of the United States is prioritizing the safety of its citizens, noting that protecting Americans remains a top priority for President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the United States Department of State.
In the alert, the embassy said it is providing options to assist Americans who wish to leave the region and advised them to closely monitor their email for updates or last-minute changes. It added that officials are closely monitoring developments and remain committed to providing timely information and assistance to U.S. citizens in affected areas.
The embassy warned that Iran has carried out attacks on civilian sites across the Middle East, including hotels, airports, embassies and other facilities. Americans who choose not to depart were advised to prepare to shelter in place and ensure they have sufficient supplies of food, water, medications and other essentials.
Commercial flights continue to operate from Queen Alia International Airport, and the embassy encouraged Americans to consider leaving on these flights if they believe it is safe to do so.
Several land border crossings also remain open, including King Hussein/Allenby Bridge, Wadi Araba Crossing and Jordan Valley Crossing, as well as the Jaber crossing with Syria. Border crossings with Saudi Arabia — including Umari, Mudawara and Durra — are operating around the clock.
Sea travel is also available via ferry services operating between the Jordanian port city of Aqaba and Egypt, the embassy said.
The State Department had earlier ordered non-emergency U.S. government personnel and their family members to depart Jordan on March 3. The embassy has also suspended routine consular services and advised Americans to contact its emergency services for urgent assistance.
The embassy urged U.S. citizens to maintain communication with family members, keep travel documents accessible, avoid protests, and follow instructions issued by local authorities while staying alert to security developments.
