16-08-2010 12:00 AM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Higher Education Council on Monday decided to delay the announcement of appointing presidents to several Jordanian universities after a number of them were informed of the decision on Sunday.

A meeting took place before the Higher Education Council session between Prime Minister Samir Rifai and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Walid Maani at the Prime Ministry to discuss the decision, leading the Higher Education Council to delay the announcement.

A source noted that pressures to change the list of appointees for university presidents may have been practiced to prevent the decision from being taken today amidst controversies over the names selected.

The Higher Education Council however did decide on the appointment of Dr. Yousef Abu Addous as president of Zarqa Private University, Dr. Ahmad Subhi Eyadi as president of Ajloun National University, and Dr. Muhammad Ta'amneh as president of Jadara University.

A decision was expected today to announce the name of the new president of the University of Jordan, anticipated to be Dr. Salman Bdour, yet the announcement was delayed today.
