Search and rescue operations are still ongoing to find the remaining people still trapped under the rubble.

The Public Prosecutor Wednesday night apprehended the contractor working on the collapsed Bayader building, which collapsed Wednesday morning, along with his wife, since she is the owner of the contractor firm responsible for the building.

Over 750 personnel from various defense departments are working around the clock in search and rescue missions to rescue a number of people trapped under the rubble in the collapse of a 7-storey building in Bayder Wadi Seer.

Informed sources told 'Ammon News' that 13 people are still under the rubble, meanwhile, reports and eye witnesses confirmed that there have been deaths in the accident, but officials have not announced the names yet.

The building under construction has been licensed since 2007; security officials began investigations and questioning of the contractor, Engineer 'Muhammad H.," Ammon News learned. Meanwhile, initial investigation results revealed that the cause of the collapse is technical faults in the building which belongs to the owner 'Asad A.'

On his part, Director of Media Affairs and Spokesman of the Civil Defense Department (CDD), Colonel Fareed Al Shar' said the skeletal structure of the 7-story building collapsed as a result of the nature of the location it is built on, noting that it is built on earthy soil ground.

6 people have already been rescued and transported to the Sports City Hospital.

Minister of Interior Nayef Qadi, PSD Director Major General Mazen Qadi and CDD Director Major General Abdullah Hamadneh supervised the search and rescue missions, in addition to Amman Mayor Omar Maani.

Um Hassan told 'Ammon News' that she was having breakfast with her daughters-in-law and eight of her grandchildren when they heard noises from the adjacent building under construction, which she noted they had gotten used to hearing.

She added that after less than a minute they heard and felt the total collapse of the building, as rubble collapsed on the room they were eating in, adding that they were trapped in the room until a neighbor broke the safety metal net outside one of the windows.

Four children and a woman were injured in the neighboring house and all were transferred to the hospital.
