Activists Protest in Jordan over US Attack on Syrian Airbase
AMMONNEWS - Dozens of Jordanian and Syrian activists demonstrated before the Syrian embassy in Amman on Saturday to protest against the missile attack carried out by the United States against a Syrian airbase.
The demonstration was organized by left-wing and pan-Arab parties and groups, which have supported the regime of President Bashar al-Assad since the beginning of the Syrian uprising six years ago and throughout the country’s ongoing civil war.
The activists chanted slogans and raised banners against US President Donald Trump.
The participants also criticized the Jordanian government, which had described the US’ attack as a “necessary and suitable” reaction.
The US Navy fired on Thursday 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles from two destroyers in the Mediterranean Sea against Shayrat Airbase in the central Syrian province of Homs.
Washington justified the attack by alleging that chemical weapons were launched from that airfield during Tuesday’s attack against the northern district of Khan Sheikhoun, where at least 80 civilians were killed.
