Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Candidates' campaigns for Parliamentary elections will kick-off at midnight tonight (Saturday/Sunday), the Official Spokesperson of the Parliamentary Elections and Political Adviser to the Prime Minister, Samih Maaytah, said.
In response to inquiries from Ammon News, Maaytah said that election campaigning and posting of campaign ads traditionally begins from the first hour on election campaigning day.
Candidates began the race competing to reserve advertisement slots allocated by municipal authorities in each city.
The government itself rallied ahead of time to post its own ads to encourage citizens to participate by casting their votes on election day, scheduled for November 9th, 2010.
A number of candidates expressed dismay at the Ministry of Political Development's monopolizing many of the slots allocated for campaign ads where they had been considering posting their own.
The famous purple government signposts were evident throughout the streets of Amman and other major cities during the voter registration period urging citizens to register to vote.
The purple signs have resurfaced again with the beginning of the candidates' official campaigning period, which begins at 12:00 AM Sunday 10/10/10.
