Army announces details of second National Military Service Batch

05-11-2026 12:39 PM

Ammon News - Director of Military Media in the Jordan Armed Forces–Arab Army (JAF) Brig. Gen. Mohammad Ali Mehaidat, has announced details of the second batch of the National Military Service (Conscription) programme.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Mehaidat said the armed forces are continuing to implement the programme according to approved plans and are preparing to receive the second batch, building on the success achieved during the training of the first batch.

He added that the army has developed its training, administrative and logistical plans to accommodate the increased number of conscripts while maintaining training quality, operational efficiency and an appropriate environment for participants.

Mehaidat explained that previous deferments recorded in military service booklets will no longer be valid once an individual is officially called up. Those selected who wish to defer their service must submit a new application through the National Military Service platform, in accordance with the cases specified by law.

He said eligible deferment cases include regularly enrolled school students, university students at institutions operating under an annual academic system, Jordanians residing abroad who can provide proof of residence, and temporary medical conditions approved by the competent military medical committees.

He stressed that deferment is a temporary measure that expires once the reasons for it no longer apply. Exemptions, meanwhile, include individuals who are the only male child of one or both parents, as well as those deemed medically unfit by the competent military medical committees.

Muhaidat also confirmed that selected conscripts are prohibited from travelling abroad during the 45 days preceding the start of their training course unless they obtain official permission from the relevant military authorities.

Conscripts wishing to travel during this period must submit a travel permit application to the Directorate of Mobilisation and People's Army at least 72 hours before their intended departure, in accordance with approved procedures.

He urged conscripts to follow up on their medical examination, recruitment and reporting dates and complete all required procedures without delay to avoid legal consequences.

Mehaidat noted that National Military Service is mandatory under the National Military Service and Reserve Service Law. Those who fail to report for service without a legitimate excuse face imprisonment for a period ranging from six months to one year.

The law also stipulates a prison sentence of three to six months for anyone who, without a legitimate excuse, fails to appear before medical examination, registration and verification committees when summoned.

He pointed out that National Military Service lasts only three months, noting that the legal penalties for failing to report may exceed the duration of the service itself.

The programme consists of two main components. The first is military and field training, covering physical fitness, military training and basic skills. The second focuses on knowledge and awareness, promoting citizenship and discipline while familiarising young people with the labour market and its requirements.

Conscripts will receive training at the National Military Service Training Centre in accordance with approved military programmes and instructions. Medical services and necessary care will also be provided throughout the training period.

Conscripts must remain inside the training centre during the first four weeks. They will then be allowed to leave at the end of each week for 48 hours.

Each conscript will receive a monthly allowance of JD100 during the service period, while employed individuals will retain their jobs and students will keep their university places, in accordance with applicable legal provisions and guarantees.

Upon completing National Military Service, conscripts will become part of the reserve forces for five years or until they reach the age of 45, whichever comes first, in accordance with the law.

Mehaidat reaffirmed that the Jordanian Armed Forces – Arab Army will continue implementing and developing the National Military Service programme and building on the experience gained.

He urged young people and their families to follow updates through the National Military Service platform and the Sanad application and to comply with official schedules and instructions.
