Ammon News - A category two (standard) low-pressure system is expected to affect the Kingdom starting Friday afternoon, and marking the first classified weather system of the season, ArabiaWeather confirmed. The period of low pressure will continue intermittently until Sunday accompanied by a noticeable drop in temperatures and possibly heavy rainfall, particularly in the northern and central regions of the Kingdom.
Temperatures will begin to drop gradually on Thursday as a cold air mass approaches the Kingdom, ArabiaWeather explained. Conditions will be pleasant during the day and cold at night, with a chance of localized rain in limited areas of the northern part of the Kingdom during the afternoon hours.
Temperatures are expected to drop on Friday, falling 5 to 6 degrees Celsius below the seasonal average. Meanwhile, the likelihood of rainfall will increase during the afternoon across the northern and central parts of the Kingdom, later extending to portions of the Karak and Tafilah governorates. The potentially heavy rainfall may be accompanied by thunder, lightning and hail– which raises the risk of flash floods in low-lying areas and the swelling of wadis (valleys).
The chance of rain will drop on Friday night and Saturday, with a possibility of dense fog forming over mountainous highlands, which could lead to reduced or near-zero horizontal visibility, ArabiaWeather added.
On Sunday, the chance of rain will persist across parts of the northern and central regions of the Kingdom, with conditions expected to stabilize by nightfall. On Monday, temperatures will remain below seasonal averages, dropping to minus 10 degrees C during the night.
ArabiaWeather has issued a warning regarding the risk of flash floods and the accumulation of water, particularly in the northern and central regions of the Kingdom, as well as in the northern and central Jordan Valley.
Additionally, visibility may be significantly reduced —or even lost entirely— due to dust on Saturday. The public is urged to exercise caution while driving, wear warm clothing, and ensure the safe use of heating equipment.
