Ammon News - Iraqi Oil Ministry spokesperson Salim al-Rikabi said the ministry, through the Iraqi Oil Marketing Company (SOMO), has contracted companies that purchase fuel oil on an ex-storage basis and export it through the Port of Aqaba via Jordanian territory.

Al-Rikabi added that the quantities of fuel oil exported through Jordan are not fixed, explaining that they depend on the number of tanker trucks, security permits, and the operating status of the Port of Aqaba.

SOMO announced in May and June 2026 that quantities of fuel oil would be offered for export, with the product to be transported by tanker trucks through available land crossings. The company’s March 2026 export report also indicated that the land export of fuel oil by tanker trucks had resumed.

Haditha-Aqaba Oil Pipeline

Regarding the Haditha-Aqaba oil pipeline project, al-Rikabi said that the pipeline project is still under study at present.

The Basra-Aqaba oil pipeline project is planned to stretch approximately 1,600 kilometers, the first section would run through Iraqi territory, from Rumaila to Haditha, covering around 700 kilometers with a design capacity of 2.25 million barrels per day, and the second section would run through Jordanian territory, from Haditha to Aqaba, covering approximately 900 kilometers with a design capacity of 1 million barrels per day.
