In September 2025, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Imad Hijazin inaugurated a redevelopment project for the historic Qatrana Castle site, aimed at rehabilitating the fortress and transforming it into an integrated tourism destination that reflects its historical and strategic significance.
Last year, an official decision published in the Official Gazette approved the designation of Qatrana Castle as a tourist site.
The move aims to enhance the site's tourism product, highlight its historical and cultural character, provide services for visitors and tourists, and encourage tourism investment to create new job opportunities for the local community.
The designation also enables the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to complete development procedures for the site in accordance with Article 2 of the Tourism Sites Management Regulation No. 23 of 2014.
Based on the recommendation of the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, the Cabinet approved the designation of the archaeological site of Qatrana Castle as a tourist destination during its session held on April 16, 2025.
