Ammon News - Inflation rate averaged 2.20 percent during the first eight months of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025, according to the Department of Statistics’ monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) report.

In August, inflation rose 2.66 percent year-on-year but declined 0.25 percent compared with July 2026.

During the January-August period, rents contributed about 0.71 percentage points to inflation, followed by transport at 0.60 percentage points, oils and fats at 0.26 percentage points, and tobacco and cigarettes at 0.17 percentage points.

In August alone, compared with the same month of 2025, transport was the largest contributor to inflation at about 1.12 percentage points, followed by rents at 0.76 percentage points and oils and fats at 0.29 percentage points.

Price declines in several categories partially offset inflationary pressures during August. Fruits and nuts reduced the inflation rate by about 0.17 percentage points, vegetables and dried and canned legumes by 0.14 percentage points, and dairy products and eggs by 0.04 percentage points.

The CPI is calculated using a consumer basket of 850 goods and services, including 325 food items and 525 non-food items. Prices are collected from a survey sample of 3,400 establishments.
