JD 50,000 in counterfeit currency seized

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Police last month arrested a lawyer attempting to smuggle more than JD 50,000 in counterfeit currency into the country through Jaber border crossing coming from Syria.

Security agencies launched an investigation into the incident and disclosed that four individuals were involved in the crime.

Two individuals were arrested, including the lawyer (N. N. Kh) on July 27, 2010 and the other two are still at large.

Security sources confirmed in statements to 'Ammon News' that three of the individuals involved in the counterfeit and smuggling operation are Arab nationals, while the fourth is a Jordanian national who is a lawyer registered with the Jordan Bar Association.

The source added that the JD 50,000 in counterfeit currency was all in JD 50 bills.

The lawyer is said to have been released on bail, however this information has was not confirmed by security sources.
