WhatsApp introduces parental controls to iPhone settings

10-08-2026 03:54 PM

Ammon News - WhatsApp is currently simplifying its parental controls for iPhone users with the latest dedicated section in the app’s settings.

The feature is being introduced in iOS version 26.30.77 and is currently available to some users.

The update comes after the launch of a similar parental controls section on Android. While parent-managed accounts have become accessible in select regions since March, WhatsApp found that many parents were unaware of the feature.

Easier setup for parents
The new Parental controls section offers parents a step-by-step setup process. Parents are required to use the child’s phone while keeping their own iPhone nearby.

Users can then easily scan a QR code or accept an invitation to link their accounts ahead of completing the setup on the child’s device.

Notably, the Meta-owned WhatsApp has designed the procedure in the simplest way possible, with no technically complex knowledge.

Child’s age determines restrictions
During setup, parents are asked to enter the child’s date of birth. The company stated this information remains private and is used internally to determine which features should be restricted based on the child’s age.

The system also automatically tracks when the child turns 18.

Availability
WhatsApp's new parental controls section is being launched gradually through the App Store. As a result, some iPhone users may not see it immediately even after installing version 26.30.77.

It’s worth mentioning the company has yet to officially announce when the feature will become available to everyone, but more users are expected to receive it soon.
